Yaupon holly ilex vomitoria is an evergreen tree or shrub that s native to coastal areas of the south southeastern united states. Both male and female plants make small white flowers in the spring. It has attractive dark green foliage which emerges chartreuse in spring. This showy holly takes on a wild form with its irregularly shaped branches that weep by arching toward the ground.

Weeping yaupon holly makes a very distinct irregular weeping form with its upright crooked trunks and slender curved pendulous branches clothed with small oval grey green foliage. Preparation of yaupon yah pon ranges from putting four or five leaves in hot water not boiling for five or six minutes to elaborate drying steaming roasting and percolation. The weeping form makes it great as a specimen or accent plant. Native to the southeastern u s yaupon holly is often planted as an informal hedge shrub or privacy screen since it requires minimal shaping and is available in several attractive slow growing cultivars.
