Partial to full sun. The gracefully weeping form and a bounty of bright scarlet berries bring subtle elegance to any garden. Weeping yaupon holly is known scientifically as ilex vomitoria pendula this species of tree is native to florida and requires little irrigation or maintenance once the trees are established. This showy holly takes on a wild form with its irregularly shaped branches that weep by arching toward the ground.

The weeping form makes it great as a specimen or accent plant. This means that only the female plants produce berries and there must be a male plant nearby to fertilize the flowers. Seven years old and has been virtually maintenance free. The botanical name for the weeping yaupon holly ilex vomitoria is indicative of the berries ability to induce vomiting as was practiced by coastal indian tribes preparing for battle.

It is able to grow to heights of 20 to 30 feet tall with a span of 6 to 12 feet and has a moderate growth rate. The glossy green leaves are oval up to one inch long and feature fine toothed margins. One male yaupon holly produces enough pollen to fertilize several female plants. The weeping yaupon holly is a beautiful evergreen multi trunked tree with small white flowers and plentiful red berries on pendulous branches in the winter.
